Studies on the Physiology of Bolting and Flowering in Raphanus sativus L.

Abstract
The flower bud abortion (FBA) of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) substantially occurred when grown under condition of the short daylength and low light intensity and low temperature, but under long day and high light intensity the number of FBA was fewer and the reproductive development was accelerated. With sufficient vernalization and long day, when grown at 25¡É and given high light intensity, reproductive development was promoted, thereby the FBA could be reduced.
Big differences were observed in FBA among cultivars, i.e., the greatest number of FBA was measured for `Ulsan MS¢¥ followed by the order of `Minongjosaeng¢¥, `Comet¢¥, `Jinjoodaepyeong¢¥ and `Joongkukcheongpi (JC)¢¥. The rate of photosynthesis was considerably low or the plants in which FBA did not occur. Comparing the F©û made between `Ulsan MS¢¥ and `JC¢¥ which differ in the responses of FBA to their parents the FBA appeared to be recessive.
